electric water pump.
electric water pump. i know this has probably been asked before, but i cant seem to find a thread on it. sorry if im beatin a dead horse 
but what kind of hp gains have you guys seen from an electric water pump? and what brand is the best? thanks in advance for any help.

I am sure most of you will argue with that but hopefully a few who have a clue will back me up.
The only way it can free up power given the energy losses every time energy changes form is if it pumps less. The stock setup takes rotation to turn the pump, the electric takes rotation and turns it into electricity and then back into rotation, very inefficient.
It COULD be argued the stock pump pumps too much water at high rpms because it has to deliver adequate flow at idle and being solidly tied to engine rpms the rate of flow will go up with engine rpms, till it cavitates anyway.
An electric pump absolutely will get you a RWHP gain and an ET gain. BUT IMO they are not a great idea for a daily driver unless you are willing to purchase and carry with you at all times a spare. They are very easy to change but are not something you can get at the local parts store like a stock pump. Also a failing stock pump just leaks so the car is somewhat drivable and will usually get you home even if you have to add water. A failed electric means shut the car off immediately or risk serious damage since they fail by the motor failing and not pumping anymore.

I swapped from stock to a Meziere and picked up 9-10 rwhp across the tested rpm range on a Mustang dyno...We did it on the same day, same weather conditions...It cools better at idle in traffic than the stock pump did, but, because it pumps at a constant speed regardless of engine rpm, it runs a tad hotter during cruise, but still never goes over 180...

I have had the meziere water pump on my car for over 4 years now. I would recommed that brand, and JEGS sells them the cheapest that I've seen. That pump has never let me down ever.
