Tom, it is an issue where the stock PCM can't seem to trigger the injectors, it's not Oprispark related.

Yeah I don't have the stock PCM..... Standalone FAST XFI system..... Any word from MSD on whether or not they think it'll take that kind of RPM without failure?????

And the LTCC or dynaspark is kinda the way to do it right but a crab dist and a crank trigger is the REAL way to do it right..... I Like the COP setup like LS1's but it does increase difficulty when it comes to wiring up the XFI.... Nothing like 8 coils to contend with

Cuz i'm on the fence right now.. I have a FAST XFI standalone system with an optispark connector to drive an opti..... i can dump that connector and get a crab style distributor and crank trigger since i'm going to run a single plane intake.....

But if MSD seems to think that this thing will survive in a 1000hp, 8 second LT1 spinning 7600-7800 rpms without failure then hell i might buy one....

opinions please????
MSD is claiming something like a 10,000 rpm capability. So im sure your good to go if that is true.

different cap and rotor materials as well as a redesigned optical pick up, the opti is really complicated and thats probabl why this was just released

I might do it but I would expect MSD to give me one for free to try out....

And appear in ads with pics of my car that go like this:

"Our Pro Billet Optispark Distributor survived in this 1995 LT1 Camaro on two stages of nitrous spun up to 7800RPM's and still provided spark under the crushing environment of over 1000hp!!!!"

Seriously though I might try it and if it works I'll be calling MSD up for some type of ad support..... maybe some free MSD items..... in exchange for use of pics.....

Sounds like a hyped/hopped up vented optispark to me.
When it comes to stuff like this your better off stock replacement. Unless your doing something hardcore which if you are you should not beat around the bush and drill the manifold for a solid magneto or HEI HD setup.

Hope it doesn't give any of you guys any problems, please post your experiences.

i have had the MSD opti on my car for several weeks now, and pushing around 3K miles on it... no problems yet... even though my car is mostly stock, it spins to 6K without a skip in beat... are the new optical design is completely different from stock... all new desing and the bearing and shaft design is alot stronger than the stock opti... that also allows it to spin higher... you have to feel the design to understand it... hard to explain... nice product.... i have pics i will try to post up later..

So is it reading the notches in the cam position wheel differently or same method with a different optical sensor? (the stock one is a mitsubishi lens)

Nobody has proven that the dynaspark or msd lens is different. People are just quoting from the ads theyve read.
