Trans Mount Issues

Trans Mount Issues Ok. I did some searching but came to no avail. My dad has a 95 Formula. I was driving it about a week ago and started hearing a loud clunk. Check and found the trans mount broken. After talking with him he told me he changed that mount twice before. I saw a couple threads on how to check the motor mounts, so the nect time Im his way Ill check those as well. My question is this, is there a reason why this mount keeps breaking. I.E. the motor mounts are broken leading the trans mount to break repeditivly. When I had the car on the lift I checked them visually but saw no major indications of breakage. Also. If theres no real reason for this problem other than its a crappy mount. Would there be any drawbacks on going with a poly mount? Cause other Mounts to break...etc..etc. The car is 100% stock. Im not quite sure what else could cause this.
BTW.....Changing the fuel pump on these cars is a pain.

I have to change mine out also so I am in the same boat as you are.....I think the stock mounts were just junk because I have heard of many people on here breaking their's. For what reason, I dunno.
The poly mount will fix the problem but you will get some extra road noise and slight vibration in the shifter....but it should settle down after awhile.
Someone told me to get an LS1 mount but I have not researched it yet.

I just bought me a lifetime warranty one from autozone here for like $20 or so i think, but it hasnt broke on me yet, either its scared to because it knows im just gonna take it back and get another one, or I got a good one out of 1,000,000 i think. lol. LS1 cars that used to come in the shop I used to work for would always be broke 9 out of 10 times, so I dunno what makes them break so much.

OK ill go ahead and get him a poly one. I thought there may be somthing that causes them to break . Take for instance on a v6 accord when the side mount breaks its guarrannted that the front mount is broke as well. (btw, im a honda tech, in case you hadnt guessed) Thanks a ton for the quick response. And if anyone has anymnore insght id be glad to hear it. Im a dsmer but suddenly half of my friends got f bodys within the last couple of months. (tripp I know your on here somewheres) Between that and my Dads mint 95 ill be here somewhat frequently. not sure if this is true but if the engine mounts are broken the engine should torque back causing the transmission to shift as well. the tranny mount would have to absorb all that stress. Just thinking, not sure if its practical. also ive heard that if you replace the tranny mount with pu you should swap the engine mounts as well to pu. if not the bellhousing "could" crack since the rubber mount would flex and the pu would hold solid.

As far as the broken mounts, I got a Poly one and have had no problems. If the Engine mounts were broke, the Engine would rock side to side, not back and forth.

I had a poly trans mount in my car for about 2 years and it worked fine, but there was always alot of vibration. My brother put an LS1 trans mount on his car and it worked great, so I put one on my car. I love the way it feels now and there's no vibration. Had it over a year now and it hasn't broke. I used to go through lt1 trans mounts about 1 every couple of months. As for people that are breaking the LS1 trans mounts. From what I've seen is that it's only been on M6 cars. A4 cars don't seem to have that problem.

The mounts are the same...I've been running the same Prothane poly mount for ~3 years now with no problems with both an A4 and an M6. I'm guessing the M6 puts more stress on the mount, especially if you still have the stock torque arm (or one that still mounts to the tailshaft of the tranny).
I got mine from autozone too, if I take the car above 80mph it shakes like all hell, litetrly like a ******* tire fell off. Its insane. Other hten that its fine. I will be switching back to the old one tho, it vibrates to much for me.
The autozone one is a generic p.o.s its for all GM rwd cars which is prolly why it doesnt work too well on fbodys.
