LT1 Trouble!!!!
Ok folks, my LT1 has betrayed me!
Couple days ago I was cruising home from work, I pulled into my apartment complex. I was slowly cruising in.. Every tiem I drove past a car it sounded like there was a sprinkler on, finally I realized the sprinklers werent on and that it MIGHT be my ccar, so I look at the temperature and quickly park, I WAS OVER HEATING! CRAP! So any ways I had somone I knew come over and check it out, guess it was the waterpump. We replaced it and now the heating problems gone, but im worried that maybe getting hot caused some kind of problem.. I am noticing when I had the hood up last night just checkin to make sure everything was running alrite monitoring the temperature at idle rigght at the middle of the gauge. But it sounds kinda like fluttering should I say, somthing doesnt sound right. Kinda ... like a knocking? But hard to identify since my car knowledge is short, Anyone have any idea on what may of went wrong?
And by the way we found that there was coolant on top of the opti. Sound like the opti here? Or somthing else?

Yeah the stock fan comes on way late, I wired up my own fan switch, cost you like $5 in supplies to do so. Didn't matter much anyway when my hypertech 160 degree thermostat failed in the closed position! Goodbye head gasket, seperated at the rear of #7 cylinder. After the rebuild a 170 Be cool thermo went in, they are supposed to fail in the open positon.
I always thought that was a stupid design, water pump fails, and to tell you it streams water out of the weep hole, which is above the opti, who approved such a stupid design?

When my head gasket blew my temp gauge was maxxed out. I had no coolant flow cause the thermostat was closed so of course the fans didn't help in the least.
I'm suprised that constant temps are around 200, is that the average for people? Wiht the 170 themostat I seem to run around 180, same in town cause I flip the fans on as soon as I hit the off ramp. Unless the temp gauge is lying? Or are alot of you guys not running a fan switch?

I run a manual fan switch with the stock thermostat. I have the 160t awaiting time for install. Manual switch was the best thing for me as I never let it go over 180. I think it's 180...the first line
Does the knock go away after warm up? GM's tend to have the lifter knock I've noticed and low start up oil pressure

Your problem is likely one of:
thermostat
radiator
water pump
coolant hoses/air in system
improper coolant mix or level
incorrect/too high fan settings
Since you say there was coolant on top of the opti, you may have a leak somewhere.
