Default M6+4.10s

I was wondering who out there is running 4.10s with their M6 cars? I have a set of 4.10s waiting for install, just wondering what its like? I've got mostly bolt ons and 1.6 promagnum rocker arms, exhaust is BBk shorties with no cat and 3" flowmaster catback, with cutout not installed yet. It seems in the nitrous thread 4.10s might not be good with nitrous, which sucks cause well I'm going nitrous.

I have 4.10's I like them. Your first feels a lot shorter and your around 2500 rpm on the highway in 6th

you will have issue if you try to spray alot just becuase you will run out of gear in 4th.
but you can fix that with bigger tires.

Thanks, at what speed on the highway is it turning 2500 rpm in 6th?
I'm running 275/45 sumitomo htr+ all four corners, when you say bigger tires do you mean taller or wider?

2500 will be around 90-95
a tall tire will make it seem like you have less gear.

actually i have some questions on this topic too. does the m6 loose streetability with 4.10s or is it still an ok daily driver? also what is gas mileage like after the 4.10 swap as opposed to stock?

My gas mileage was about the same. The car was also a lot more fun to drive. The 4.10 tend to break easy I broke 2 in two months.

You broke two gear sets in 2 months?! I hope this will not be the case with me, I bought richmond gears with their master install kit and will be having the shop install them, I'm not trying my first gear swap on my daily driver. 90-95 is 2500 in 6th then, thats awesome, I usually set the cruise control at 70, 80 on something like I-5, I'm never just cruising at 90.

4.10s are a little weaker because of the teeth in the gear. They tend to break a bit easier. But depending on your setup you could go with 3.73's or somewhere in between...the lower you go the less stronger they are.

I have a Lt4 hotcam, stock heads, full bolt-ons, Stage 2 clutch and light weight flywheel, 4.10s. With 315-35-17 rear tires I run 2300 rpm at 80mph and made 26.58 mpg with the A/C on (HWY). My car has run the best of a 12.70 @ 112.09 with a 2.05 60' on street tires. This is my daily driver. the car has never been more fun to drive in town. 1st gear is shorter, but not bad.

hahaha, well im used to my A4, if i put 3.73's in her at 2500 i'll be doing like 70. your first post sounded like 2500 was just cruzing the highway not flying through it. lol

quick question. how do you run 2300 at 80 and get 26.58mpg and I run like 2000 and get like 20? do I really lose that much with my auto and stall?

my guess its either tuning, or the difference of load from an auto to a manual...

That is running 80 mph with no WOT at all with the A/C on. And my car is tuned. My friends auto with 3.73s and 4000 stall makes 25 on HWY. It is not impossible If you keep your foot off the gas. I make 22 with my foot in it, with several 125 mph runs. All in the setup and how you drive. This car with 4.10s and the cam does not have to work as hard as most autos to keep the car in motion.

wow! i didnt think that was possible. my car is tuned and running pretty stoich, it was rich and i was getting horrible mpg but we leaned it out and 19.5 is the best I get on highway. and that is with very few WOT. is something wrong? i still have my 2.73's, i thought those would get me awesome mpg.

The thing about 2.73s is the car still has to work preatty hard at higher speeds to keep the car in motion. When you are on the HWY doing 70 and you give it gas (not enough to down shift) does it feel like accels good or does it take some time to get up to speed. I know if you put some better gears in it the MPG will go up. My bro has a 94Z auto with 3.42 and he makes 23 mpg doing 75-80 in his car, and it has full bolt-ons.

Stoich != best economy, but rather is used to represent the AFR that achieves best emissions. Best economy comes by leaning out your low load/cruising bins to 15-17:1 AFR and dialing in a little more timing. Do some googling on the subject so you don't grenade your engine.
