They draw enough amperage that you do need to use a relay.

Use a relay.. simple to do with the WP too....

6-8A draw, and you want it to come on and shut off automatically.
Use a standard 12V automotive relay and use your fan circuit as a trigger.

Indicator LEDs are a nice addon, I was thinking of doing that.
I want to hold off a bit and see what happens with the alarm circuits
people are designing. (the ones that tell you "HEY Dumbass, your
pump is drawing too much/too little current and is about to fail!")

Well I dont understand relays so I would run the orange wire form the fise box (fans) into the relay and then what? have it come out the other side of the relay and continue wherever it was going before?
