Default The start of something ! Pics :)

Well, I have been dreading taking apart the front end of my car so I could do some custom work on some projects in the front. I've also been trying to figure out the in-famous 93-97 LT1 firebird/transam/ws6 headlight shake that a bunch of people seem to have with these cars. I actually took the entire nose off the car to be able to really work on some items and figure out exactly what is causing a headlight to shake ( I could not believe how easy the entire front of these cars are to take apart. I had it off the car in 45 minutes). I think I have narrowed down all of the problems that can cause the assembly to make the light shake on pop-up cars. I now have both of my lights rock-solid with virtually no-play in the whole system. I will post some of the details in the next week or two so other people can benefit from my attempts to fix this long standing problem ! I have also completely cleaned / re-loomed / elec. taped / lubricated and di-electric'd all connections, seals, wiring. It looks like the day it rolled off the showroom floor (to bad nobody will see it after I put the nose back on the car). I started wiring the front light assembly to accept an H4 plug so I can do some fun stuff with lighting, stay tuned :

More work to follow next weekend......

pretty cool you went to all this trouble, do a step-by-step and maybe the mods will make it a sticky. Thanks for the effort.

Peppe, I will definitely try to do a step by step breakdown when I finish this project. Hopefully this will be the fix-all for the 93-97 LT1 firebird shakes

GM put out a service bulletin about the headlight shake. It's a super easy fix. There is a cable that is the stop when the headlights are up. You just add washers to the cable attach point on the body until the cable is tight with the light in the up position.

Toxic Formula & Low and Slow, Both of those articles are good info, but don't really cover the scope of the entire problem. There are actually about 6 or 7 things that can be wrong in a pop-up LT1 headlight setup. I will address the items that can be worn or broken to cause the in-famous headlight shake. I will agree that most of the problems are related to the plastic gear in the headlight actuators and the cable retaining strap, but there are other factors at work on this problem. I will try to post all my findings in a couple of weeks.
