Default Compatability

Will an LT1 from a 1994 Caprice work in my 1995 Z28 or is there some differences?

yes but why?? Caprice's didnt come with LT1's, Impala's came with the LT1. Caprice's came with what is called "The baby LT1". It looks just like the LT1 but is only 265ci. They look identical but the "baby LT1 has a 3.74 bore and a 3in stroke. Also they came with iron heads only. Here's a site with the differences between the two. http://www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/ar99928.htm

While you gave a little good info you also gave some flat out BAD.

The LT1 absolutely was available in the Caprice and was STANDARD in the wagons(Caprice and Roadmaster), Roadmaster sedans, Fleetwoods, and yes the Impala, your precious f-body can't claim that now can it.

The average ignorant goober here will tell you how it makes less power and such but consider the grandpa quiet intake and exhaust and 87 octane tuning the 15less hp and 5tq more both at lower rpms starts sounding like the engine might be pretty nice huh, just imagine freeup the breathing and tune for 91 octane like the f-body was. Bolton b-bodies have gone over 300rwhp, not the weak motor most here would have you believe.

The Caprice LT1 will work just fine, the shortblocks are identical, the 94 b-body got the vented opti setup like the 95+ f-body had. The heads flow MORE but are heavier iron and have a larger chamber which even with the thin headgasket results in 10:1 compression as compared to the f-body 10.4:1.

Now, take a deep breath and smile.

I feel sick now. Having my ******* ripped wide open would give anybody an up set stomach. I bow to your knowledge.
But seriously what about the 265ci motor? I know they used them in 94-96 Caprice's. Was that engine just the bottem of barrel?

It was the base engine for the Caprice sedan only.
Matter of fact my car came with one, a few years ago though I replaced it with a junkyard Roadmaster sedan engine, then a cam, then a stall and.......................

wow, 96 caprice took care of that one. i thought I was gonna have to set some people straight. all takin' care of. I'd take a B/D-body motor over an F-body motor. Chances are it wasn't beaten so hard. even in a 9C1. But tI think it was all taken care of.

also, don't forget that the accessory mounts, and accy's are different, and that the dampener sits closer to the block on F-body's.

Good point on the damper you will want to make sure to use the f-body hub.

it will work just fine, is the whole engine toast? or did you just blow a rod or something. if the accys, and heads, and cam are ok, then just buy the caprice engine and swap those parts over.

96Caprice: 95's heads were the low-flowing ones? I forget.
