This misconception probably stems from the fact that synthetic doesn't sludge. Conventional oils will eventually sludge, so in a way, the leaks get sealed off with sludge to some degree. That's why synthetics leak more, cuz they don't sludge. They'll just keep on leaking.

MY LT1 I run Mobil Clean 5000 $2 a quart

I run royal purple 20W50 in my little V6 till the LT1 gets done and thats what my Lt1 gonna get.
