check engine light

Default check engine light

while i drive the light stays off but when i get on the freeway for about 5 mins the light comes on, is this a bad o2 sensor?

i dunno. stop at auto zone and have your codes pulled.

its not supposed to stay lit when your car is shut off.......




whatevers in there is stored until its cleared. stop and have it pulled.

sorry i ment it went away after i turned it off and turned it back on..i could drive and it would come back on when i got on the freeway then i get off turn the car off then back on and drive and its gone untill i get back on the freeway

well whether it comes on and stays or leaves till chritsmas, its there until its cleard. stop and have it pulled. its free.

awesome, let us know what they say. mine does it, and its always the 02 sensor, turns out it was a bad wire rubbin another one.

I went by autozone today and the guy working there had no idea about cars, he said that they couldnt check to see why the light was on..so i will go back today when diffrent ppl are working

I work at an autozone and alot of them (at least in my area) are only doing the OBDII tests. That might be why he said he couldnt. But then again some still can so id just try again.

Btw I would like too know too because my car does the same! Once im in sixt cruising alon steady itll turn on a few min later sometimes itll go off in a few mins someties it takes longer but it goes off by the time I get where ever it is. Iv scannd for codes nd found none.

I have a 96 Z28 which I'm pretty sure is OBDII but Autozone said they couldn't check my light??

96 should be obdII. they came in 95 if im not mistaken. my light does the same thing. I was told once it was the egr valve. then again it was the o2's. well the o2's were bad so i changed them but it still comes on every once in a while. more often when it is hot outside I have noticed.
