When I ran a stick car I always used 3rd gear. Get a line lock, like the other guys said. Roll them over the water, Set the line lock just past the water box, put it in 3rd, and drop the clutch at 5000. That will heat them up pretty quick. Once I see smoke in the rear window, I let the line lock off. No need to sit there for almost a full minute like you some guys doing. The faster you spin them, the quicker they heat up.

Good luck, Ed

Well i'm going to try it without a line lock for now. Will probably use some water like people were saying and probably start in 2nd gear @ 4000 rpms.

Whats the benifit from starting in 2nd or 3rd?

I usually start in 1st dump @ 3k and then keep the rpms up to about 4-4500 watch for smoke and go. Nothing to special!

starting in 2nd will allow higher RPMs which means more smoke / faster spinningtires

Only if your engine is so weak you can't turn them over in 3rd. In water, any stock LT1 should be able to handle 3rd hear, a 3800 maybe not. More wheel speed at the same or less RPM. Pretty simple.

im a double clutcher myself imo its allot safer and less wear and tear on your car(done correctly) when i burnt off my old tires i started the burnout in 1st, hit 2nd, 3rd and 4th but i stoped ther out of fear of blowing up the tires

I've always wondered what random people think when they see people messing around in fast cars racing, doing burnouts, donuts, etc.

If its for fun, then put your car in reverse and gain a few MPH and dump the clutch in first/2nd... Now that makes for some nice street burnouts!

My favorite way is to heel toe the brake/throttle and you never move an inch,-its fun

Bww3588 , He asked a question about the best way to do a burnout. I am not advocating this or any burn out for that matter but if you are going to do one you mine as well make it nasty as can be! Oh by the way, I did this on a regular basis and the brake fluid never ate through my paint.

ohh yeah go big or go home. if it aint broke dont fix it. if brake fluid works for you more power to you! what good is a small burnout anyways? thats why i keep an arsenel of old tires in my backyard......
