Destroked LT1
Ive heard of people de-stroking a motor but never really understood fully. Thought It had to do with RPM's. I found a guy on the net with a destroked LT1. He used the crank out of an L99 from a Caprice.

I think I know who you are talking about and if so that is my old crank and rods in that motor. The man likes to "play" and has done some really great things with junkyard parts. That motor though is in his tow Caprice, the one that he wants better milage out of while he tows the fast one to the track. Initially he had planned on a FAST controlled high rpm screamer but dropped that idea.
That said Ellis is right not much point too it unless you are displacement limited in some racing class or the like.

Didn't Hotrod or Carcraft have an article that talked about this. They compared a 69 and a newer Z that they destroked to a 302 using the l99 crank (3 in. stroke) in the lt1 block. Then they put the LT4 package on it. I want to say with that setup the peak HP was somwhere around 6500. I have the magazine, just have to find it.

The guy I know that did this is not on this forum and is on the east coast, I don't know if he has a webpage or anything about the swap but it was a b-body forum I know him through. Interesting thing is the longer L99 rods made it work out just perfectly to use the stock LT1 pistons(or almost any off the shelf 350 piston).
