here is my problem
Before my lifter colapsed 5 months ago....my oil pressure gauge had been very shacky. I would have a max of 70psi when I first started it up, then when it warmed up I would have 40psi...it never went below 30.
I was told it is a bad sending unit...here is why. when I gas it ...oil pressure is fine, but when I brake hard..the oil pressure drops dramaticly. when I do a really hard stop...say at the end of the strip, my check gauge light comes on and my oil pressure is at 0.
only while braking hard. for a while it was really shaky then it went to 0 for about a week. I drove it to and from work(no clanging, knocking or anything. everything had oil. then my lifter went and now I have my new setup.
I took it out, had fun and then I noticed it acting up again....while braking. I was told it might be the oil pickup, but sounds to me like the pressure sensor. the car has always done this. anyone care to shed a little light on the subject?

mine does the same....its because there are no trap doors to hold the oil in the pan... so when you brake really hard all the oil flows to the front of the engine and the pressure drops... thats why at the end of the track i was just killing the motor and then slowing down... that way i didnt hurt anything... a nice new canton oil pan will fix that right up... lol...

I have the same problem... but. I think it is my oil pressure sending unit. When i put the motor back in i forgot to put it back on the block now i am having a hard time finding a socket that will give me enough room to tighten it down. Does anyone know if it is a special socket or have any other ideas?

yeah AC Delco has a special socket. Bought it at this tool wholesale place for liek $3.00 Lifetime Gaurantee and AC DELCO brand. :O
Nonetheless you should be able to get a wrench on it, or a deep wheel socket of that size.

like i said mine drops under heavy braking due to nothing in the pan keeping the oil in the bottom of the pan.... so the oil flows forward... leaving the sump empty or almost... i want to get a canton oil pan just for that reason.. but they are quite pricey... around 280 that i just dont feel like spending...
