Dont think u can since those years are eltronically control by the PCM. Speedo, shift solenoids, temp all those things inside the trany. I also beleive that the output shaft that go into the converter are different. You would have to by pass the PCM get a custom speedo made to work with your car.....Etc. by the time your done u would have wished u would have re-built your stock one. Trust me my buddy did a 200r4 in a LS1 it was a 3 week project. Crossmember, and all electronics.

its do able but my trans guy told me that the 4l60e is strong and handle more horse power and as bad as i abused mine and it still shifts hard and on the money ever time i`ll never change it out for anything else

I'll down shift it myself
summit told me all I need is a TV cable if I dont want to down shift myself eveytime
TCI converter lockup kit
and I already no all my crossmembers with fit because I had it in the just to test and it drove ok...

I had a trans brake manual valve body 4r70w that I DD from DC to Annapoliss traffic, highway and city driving. It wasnt that bad but it wasnt no 5-speed. I started to miss the good ole days when my computer did all the shifting. I hated flicking that switch for lock up also. Couldve got a timer but, meh.

I am in the process of putting a 1996 LT1 in my 1991 RS with a built 700r4. I think it will be fine. Although it may require a new VSS and a different kick down cable. I am not completely sure of everything that is involved. But I am sure I will find out within the next month or so
