Default lt1 waterpump?

ok, my waterpump started leaking on me sometime this weekend, and was just wandering how much of a pain it is to change, that way i know what i'm looking at. the car is my only driveable car right now so i have to try and get it done in one evening in order to make it to work the next day.

It's not too bad to change. The hardest part for me was removing the stuck on hoses. For those I just took a small flat head screwdriver and poked it in the end to pry the rubber away from the metal. It didn't ruin the hoses or anything.

I've removed and installed mine 4 times in this past week because I am a moron. It's not so bad, just make sure you have the gasket surfaces clean and removing the fans/radiator makes the job a lot easier, believe it or not. This whole job takes me about 2 hours if I take my time and do it right.

MAKE SURE the drain the coolant before you take off the water pump, or else your Opti will be taking a bath

The more you drive it the better chance you have of ruining your opti, and you dont wanna replace that 2 weeks down the line cause ur new water pump will have to come right back off

well i got it changed out last night, but when it was all back together i checked for leaks and stuff, and to my suprise the damn water pump (new one) had a crack in it on the underside and was leaking just as bad as the old one, so thats got me really pissed off since i have to do it all over again this afternoon. only one good thing about it this time, i know what all has to come off to get to the water pump now, so it should be a lil quicker today.

You should also pull the vent lines from the bottom of your opti and blast some compressed air through it if you have it available.

Default lt1 waterpump

where does the vent line from the opti go?? i have some line coming from the intake that was hanging down to the bottom of the car between the motor and the radiator that wasn't hooked to anything, would that possibly go to the opti? i'll look today, but when i bought the car the guy said it didn't have a vented opti, so i don't know, i'll check it out when i'm back in there this afternoon.

One should go to the intake and be (+) for vacuum, the other should go to a fresh air source, mine goes up to the duct between the MAF and the TB. there was a little blue plastic pipe piece that mine hooked up to.

Good luck. I get to take mine apart tonight for the 5th time, finally figured out what was wrong.....

Yes, I am not sure when they started them though. If you pop the Opti off you can see where the fresh air one goes to. It's actually on the right side of the unit, lower like at 5 oclock, right behind the balancer. That one should go to the fresh air part, although my expertise ends with the 96 model year, because that's what I have.

yea i found it yesterday while under there. the fresh air is hooked up, now where does the line from the intake hook up on the opti? does it need to be hook up or will it hurt it not being connected?

Closer to the motor on the back of the Opti there should be another vacuum tube hookup, although this one should be metal. That one goes to the intake manifold. It's on the metal casting portion of the opti and is closer to the motor and the input shaft. It also takes a smaller size vacuum tube.

Default lower left hose running off waterpump

This is a little off the subject, but still close enough I hope; what is the line running off of the bottome left side of the LT1 waterpump? Where does it run to? Last night my line blew some how and I looked at it this morning in the day light and I can just barely see down in there because there`s hardly any space, but I can see that the line broke or came apart at like this metal piece. Is there supposed to be a clamp there or something? I can almost push the two pieces of hose together like one end fits inside the other. Does that make sense? Does anyone have any insight for me? LOL I want to fix it myself because I just paid to have it towed home.
Does anyone know?

Only if you went to a electric water pump would you notice a difference.
