u should start the car go under the hood and start moving wires around like just start messing with them and see what happends cause like i said before i was having the same prob. and when i started to mess with some wires it started doing it so i know its gotta be a loose conection somewhere, at least on my car anyways.

Could be a problem with your alternator. I know that sounds weird too but the diode or whatever in there that makes it put out DC current as opposed to the AC current it makes could have went bad. And an electrical system thats supposed to run on DC (a car) that is being run on AC can do some funky things. i say unplug it and see what happens

There is a fuel relay, it primes the injectors runs for about 10 secs , i can here mine as its sat in the car, to me its the pump or relay sticking , check the feed wire from the ingintion to the relay as it sounds faulty it could be the column , find the relay feed from ignition switch put tester on it to make sure that there not a short, alway go for the cheapest option first.

I have been thinking of the ignition switch, but when it went from warming up and dieing to just firing up and dieing I kinda rulled that out. I mean I dont know but I wonder if the opti is wired with the fuel pump and injectors some how.

FP is 42 switch on

If its running for such a short time its the pump or relay , for the short time the engine is using only the fuel that been pressurised on the priming cycle, engine runs ,pressure drops comp gets fault , get someone to hear for the pump running when you start up, what code or codes coming up ,

Just checked code 42 it says that the ingnition curciuit is shorting or grounding which is poss for the relay as i would think that its on the curcuit. Will try to dig deeper. I have fuel pump probs before .

I have been having the same problem on and off for over a year. Sometimes she runs perfectly. It even went without problem for 6 months or so. But as soon as it happened ( a year ago) I changed my opti. No change. Then I proceeded to change various sensors. I also checked by fuel pump, relay, and pressure. All checked out fine. I finally got tired of messing with it when it died on my way to work last November. I had it taken to the dealership. They had the car for 2 weeks. In those two weeks it didn't throw any codes or act up once. So they gave it back to me no charge. Next day it did it again. So I still haven't had the codes checked. but it only does it maybe once or twice a month. I am convinced it is an electrical short. I have been chasing it for a few weeks now. I don't have alot of time to mess with it. I don't drive it that much anyways. But I will find it. I am telling you, your Opti won't be making your injectors and stuff do what they are doing. Check your grounds. Save yourself the $$$ and the trouble.

Watched american hot rod and they had what seemed like the same prob found it to be a connector that had the 5v -6v wires and found them shorting and that was on and LS engine that had no spark ie power to the opti.

Dude I was having the samn problem you were... And after buying around 700 dollars in parts and it doing the same thing, I took it too a shop... 600 dollars later at the shop(mostly labor cost) They found it to be my ignition switch and crank sensor. Although you might not have a crank sensor on yours (OBDI) You might want to go ahead and have ignition switch changed. Mine had a short in it causing it to do all kinds of crazy thing like that. Hell at first people thought I had a cam in mine. But I was like nope my car is just f**ked up... Ater all that money to get my car running right I yank the motor out... Damn those 1,300 hundred bucks sure would've helped me out on my rebuild....

Is this a common problem because I to had the same thing happen to me. I had faulty wiring in my ignition swith. I guess I have to stop putting all my weight on the streering wheel when I'm scooting my seat up.
