Default Moving ICM

Hey guys i havnt really posted much on the forum but i do use it alot. I have a volvo with a 1993 LT1 swap and I THINK I am having problems with the ICM overheating.

this is an old picture but it kind of gives a view of how the metal radiator hoses kind of wrap around the icm. I just replaced the icm yesterday and it ran great.

after a 10 min. drive I went home and the car sat for about 30 mins. then i went to leave again and it wouldnt start. I am guessing it is the icm getting to hot. after it sat for a few hours it started, but not right away like when it is dead cold.

My question is would moving it off of the head and on to the body of the car cause any grounding problems? What other issues do you think it might be?

Here are some more pictures..

and a vid

for starters,i would like to say that is a nice job you did on the instal!
as far as the icm over heating did you use the dielectrical grease upon installation to the bracket?if you did move it to the fender without the grease on the backside it will still overheat, howver if you did the above it would definately reduce the amount of heat the entire assembly would endure.as long as the bracket has a good ground i would move it also!

I did use grease on the bracket and on the back of the icm. I want to move the whole icm and coil assembly to the fender. If i routed a ground wire from the icm/coil bracket to the stud on the head do you think that would be enough?

thanks for the comments.

ICM heat soak failure isn't going to be a reoccurring issue. If it happens once it's because the ICM is failing and breaking down, and the heat is just making it more pronounced. Once it's replaced, it will be fine for XX miles or years untill it eventualy breaks down as well. If you replaced it once your going to be fine from now on. Moving it isn't going to hurt anything, but it will also not really help any either. Even in the most cool location, it will eventualy fail anyway.

There are a lot of Heat soak failure parts other then the ICM. Ign sources like the coil and opti are 2 of them, fuel pump is also.

Get it to not start, and begin running all the tests. http://www.mainstreamtopics.com/foru...p?showtopic=78
