Most of us will actually recommend ported stock heads over aftermarket. People are FAR too quick to ASSume aftermarket means better. With the LT1 GM left a lot less room for improvement and some of the aftermarket crap is just basically converted gen1 stuff that might have been geat on a Gen1 but with the LT1 heads starting out pretty good few of the aftermarket offerings offer any bang for the buck.

www.advancedinduction.com is my choice and I am quite happy 12.6 at 106 last night at abut 4250lbs. from a daily driven Caprice. The guys with the LS1s are suprized by my whale with just an LT1.

Call Advanced Induction. 704-907-4341. Also, check out their website; they have ported intakes to match their head work.

there are good aftermarket heads. if your going to make a statement like that you may as well say which ones are bad and which ones are good.
AFR makes some good heads, i would get them ported elsewhere though

I would run LT4s or Trickflows long before AFRs. IMO AFR is living off a reputation earned on the gen1 and has not kept up on the LT1, the guys that go fast with AFRs throw cubic dollars at the car, the guys that go often just as fast for a fraction the cost do so with GM castings. I would also NEVER bother with LT4s or Trickflows unported and not on a stock displacement motor either

Good advice. He should get those heads flowbenched so he knows the numbers. It helps when you're choosing a cam to know what CFM the heads will flow.

IMO cam to head matching is overrated. Even without a flow sheet we know a good ported LT1 head will be at or very near peak by .550 that is all you really need to know, then the cam should be setup to match the USAGE and rest of the vehicle.
