Default Traction IS a problem?

I should have asked this question a long time ago. Are there any stock lt1s or one that have the same mods as me that can spin out from idle? I know its good to have traction, but I didn't know if there is a problem. I can easily stall it up 100 or 200 more rpms to spin, but not at idle. I used to have the stock 235/55/16 Eagle Ga's. I ran a 13.7 when I had CAI, flowmaster muffler, and the eagle tires. My best time was when I just launched from idle. Even with the new exhaust, it didn't spin. All stock crappy suspension by the way. Just wondering if this is normal.

if you have bald tires then is all spin, no go

with the cheapo tires i have in the rear, they hook really good.. even after several burnouts.

but my kumhos up front will spin alot mashing in 1st right after i let the clutch out back when they were in the rear with the mods in my sig.

it almost sounds as if you have 2.73 gears, they hardly ever spin off the line compared to a 3.23 or more.check your gear ratio the next time you service your diff.look on the ring gear you will see #'s like 43-11,42-10 etc not actual #'s but will be stamped on ring gear.

I second the idea of 2.73 gears, my friends 94 a4 lt1 vette can't even burn out, he's got the 2.whatever gear the vettes got, even with asr off, can't roast a tire.

yep! I have the sweet 2.73's. I HATE EM! The only good thing is gas mileage. I can drive a 80mph @ 2K rpm. And my tires are not bald at all. So the gearing is my "problem?"

RPO codes also list gear ratio.

Tell him to turn off ASR. When my 93 was bone stock with no special options and great granny gears with 17's and with 18's I could get'er spinning easy. My 94 vert bone stock with granny gears was tough. Seemed to do it a little sometimes but not always.

Yeh, I can spin them if I hold the brake and stall it up just a hair; but never at idle. 1.73s are so long. If I were to race from a roll, it would have to be 30mph or 70mph. Nothing in between. 30mph is top of 1st, and 70mph is top of 2nd.

traction is a good thing, take your tall *** gears and go to the track and stomp the **** out of it as hard as you can.

I hear ya. I got 2.73's too. They aint no neck snapper, lol. Im putting my spare 3.42 rear in this winter when I do my A4 to T56 swap. Id put some 3.73's or possibly 4.10's in it. Alot of people will chime in saying dont do 4.10's in an A4, but some people do it and like them. Then again some hate them. Its all up to what you want. The 2.73's do make it easier to launch at the track without spinning though, lol.

I don't plan on changing to gears anytime soon. But what would be bad about 4.10s in an A4? Runs through the gear too fast? Or bad highway gas mileage?

Everyone is going to tell you 4.10's are the worst and Al qaeda produces them using baby seals but I loved them and didnt have one problem with them on the highway or city.

They say its the highway mileage. They are nice with M6 cars because of the 5th and 6th gear overdrives.

Sorry, I know this is LT1-LT4 forum but I couldn't help but post to this thread. I had no idea that LT1s had a problem burning out! Wow, I can't freaking stop burning out! Even at 1/4 throttle I spin em'. At 1/2 throttle I burn em' and at full throttle, I won't be going anywhere, just sitting there roasting the tires. I find it a problem when racing.

Lt1's dont have a problem burning out. I can make a 215rwhp car burnt out with the right gears and or TC.

I had 2.73's in my 97 T/A and didnt stop spinning till a little after 2nd with only LT's and CAI. I also had brand new tires. I just put some 3.42's in and now I spin twice as bad.

When I had 2.73's they would spin if I went full throttle off the line. With 3.73's they will roast if I want them to.
