well you need to isolate where the leak is coming from. I'd be willing to bet it's prolly coming from the crank seal or prolly the waterpump seal

if the timing cover isnt leaking there's no need to change it. You need to find out where the leak is coming from before you can really go any further.

well what's the highest up the oil is found at. You'll need to clean it off and start watching it.

I'd be willing to bet it's coming from the water pump seal. it's a PITA to change because you have to pull the damper (not the hub) and the opti to be able to remove the water pump seal. PLus it's a special seal that requires a special tool to install, otherwise it will get torn and leak again. there's a few threads that talk about replacing it.

Welcome to the club. I have been fighting hte same thing since I got this car a month and a half ago and it still leaks like a bitch. REad those threads on the waterpump seal and change everything you can while it's apart. I have torn mine down SIX times and am preparing to do #7. It's really hard to determine where it's from when it's all over like that.

My bet is that it'll only leak when you're driving, like on mine....

The part is made by Kent Moore and the number is J 39089. I called on it and it is very $$$$. It's just a little plastic sleeve but it is over $100. It helps you put the seal in place without flipping out the lip while you put it over the (waterpump) driveshaft.

I took a dental pick and rounded over the tip and used that to make sure that it didn't flip over. If you want I can send you one, I have a million old, worn out picks lying around... BTW, I just won an auction for the balancer puller. That's expensive as well. Is Kent-Moore like Gucci or something?? Sheesh...

Brian.

I probably wouldn't have steady enough hands to do that but that's a good idea! I picked up a balancer puller at the local parts house (for any engine but still works on the LT1). I just had to buy an extra set of bolts to fit my balancer (Fluidampr, metric thread). I think Kent Moore is just another level on the automotive food chain. They rape the dealers so the dealers rape us, LOL.

My problem wasn't the balancer bolts, but the hub hole didn't go all the way through so you couldn't push on the front of the crank snout without a longer balancer bolt. I must own a million bolts, but none in 7/16-20 at that length. Ergo, I boght the balancer remover. When I get money to move onto an LS1 in 10 years or so (LOL) I'll sell the puller/installer.
