Default 1993 Vats?

Is the VATS in a 1993 Camaro different from that of a 1994-1997? In that, is there any way that the VATS could be the cause of my 93 LT1 not starting in my RX7? I only ask because I know that a decent number of changes were made in electrical equipment from 93 to 94 and I hope this is one of them. Thanks.

Yes the vats can keep the car from starting. Which do you have, 93? In the 93, the VATs does 2 things. It disables the starter, by the use of a relay which opens the power wire from the ingition switch to the starter solenoid. And 2 it disables the fueling by not grounding a wire to the PCM. You can disable the VATs threw programming the EEprom. This eliminate the need to ground the wire to the PCM. Then you can either bypass the starter disable relay, or wire it to a switched source.

Hm, because the starter turns(I'm using the Rx7 ignition, so that is probably why) and the car runs on started fluid, but will not start on it's own. I also have a spark, so I know that at least some part of the PCM is doing it's job. I do have the 93 LT1, so I really hope this is the problem, but I hear of most people at elast getting the motor to run for 3-4 seconds.

More than likely you are not getting any fuel then. Do you have a custom tune? If so you should of had the VATs programmed out. If not, you should be able to ground a pin on the PCM to make it think that the VATs is working properly. Without this pin grounded it will not fire the injectors.

the VATS isnt the problem... the vats usually and should on these cars not allow the starter to even turn... it takes the signal.. i know in newer models it does the fuel pump... but im not sure about the 93... i thought it was just not letting the starter turn... it should just be dead...

He said he's using the ignition out of the RX7, so he probably does not even have the Starter disable relay.

I don't have the starter disable relay. The guy from PCMforLess.com also said that it was probably the VATS, so I'm leaning that direction. If anybody knows for sure that would be great.

I would put money on that being the problem. Just get ahold of Alvin and have him disable the VATs for you.

It's an 86. And I'm sending the PCM to Alvin in the morning.
