The right way to break in an engine,new383
What is the right way to break in a new engine,"a 383 stroker to be exact". I have heard different stories and dont know who to believe
How many miles do you want to have on the car before you dyno it..
How about a quick break in period, and then straight to be dynoed, I've heard of people doing this and there enigne running fine?or will I regret it?
Any stories with good or bad results..?

actually, you DO wanna drive it like you stole it. To seat the rings properly. After it is warm, first thing: You want to WOT, and take it to say 60% of the redline. Then, engine break from that rpm back to idle. do this several times, then change the oil. The Be easy on it comes from flat tappet cams, that need to harden. If you fail ro seat the rings this way, the walls and rings will be glazed over, and then you will have less power. I'll see if I can find the study, as I know this sounds bad.
Ever wonder why you want a crosshatch and not a silky smooth bore? DING DING DING! to wear the rings, so they seat better.

What Ive been told is to (if you have a manual) to put it in one gear too big and take it from say 2500 to 4500 rpms, then let the engine slow itself down (dont downshift, dont use the brakes, just let it slow itself down... we ran quite a few redlights doing this during rush-hour), do this in 2nd, then repeat in 3rd and 4th... (These were specifically for a Cobra but I know the same thing is used for motorcycles and such, the important part is putting a load on the engine.)

I would just drive mine to a close by town (70 miles every other day... 140 total) I was doing 70-90 MPH not stepping on it. Changed the oil @ 200 miles, 500 miles and 1000 miles.
@50 miles on the clock I took it to get dyno tuned. Tuner tooking it to 6400 with no problems. 14 passes on they dyno

What they said ^^^
Floor it from 2000 to about 4500. Stop. Repeat.
Kinda crazy to feel it get faster and faster everytime you do it.
Also, stop and go traffic is good, highway bad. Cruise around town for a while, as in all day.
