Please Help, backfiring through INTAKE?
Hey guys need your help, car suddenly died and wont start.
Ive changed opti twice before (had warranty on Opti) and symptoms were the usual - would backfire out of exhaust, misfire, sputter.
Although now its backfiring through the INTAKE, seems like timing is off but
i need your opinion on what could be causing this.
Could the opti cause it to backfire through intake?
And could it be bad gas? (ACCIDENTLY filled up 87 for the first time 6gals. )
Will let you know more indepth tommorow as in if im getting spark, fuel (battery died im waiting for it to charge).
Thanks
Arthur

well you guys wont believe what it was, after removing the Opti
i found out that the 2 Bolts that hold the rotor together magically
unscrewed . No damage was done at all, they just unscrewed and
rotor was just sitting in one spot, so i bolted it back up and put couple
drops of super glue on them just incase.
Well thanks everyone for the help, im very fortunate to get out of this
repair without spending a dime .

I didnt think of that, I already sealed the opti.
I did the same thing i did last install put high temp silicone around the rubber seal neatly, its easy to take of if i have to open it and there was zero moisture or oil in the opti when i opened this time.
and nemanracing you posted about 30 min after i sealed the opti .
Im pretty sure its not gonna cause me any problems though.
Heres some pics after i sealed it, does any one else do this?
or am i the only one .

Opti rotor could be loose. There are tiny screws which hold the rotor in place and they have been notorious for backing out causing the rotor to fire cylinders at will. You'll have to take it apart to see. Requires somewhat special tools like inverted star screws. For simplicity you can use one of the star bolts off the top throttle body cover. Search on this forum. Many many threads about this very thing.
