there's the b&m pro stick and the hurst quarter stick. the hurst comes as a 4 speed pattern, and the pro stick is cheaper but you have to buy the 4 speed plate for $20. both fir in the console with minor trimming for the reverse lockout.

to the top... I dont like the shifter in my Z28 either. My last car was a manual and it dont feel right having a handle to hold on to that you cant grab from the top. I much prefer a sphere type handle or a t-handle (hell, an A4 T/A has a nicer shifter!). As soon as the old auto dies, a 6-speed will go in (hopefully) . I would like to know as well what the options are for an auto shifter. Any minor trimming is no problem, I just dont want for the damn shifter assembly to stick out... Maybe a leather boot cover is a good option? If anyone knows how to make a quarter stick work good, please post it. It's easier in my '79 because they make a console model...

Thanks.

I have the console quicksilver shifter in my '78 and it is my favorite modification ive done to the car. It's fun ripping through the gears in that thing.

Why would you go through all that trouble to put on a shiny ball?
Its all gutted around it and IMO looks funny.

IMO, its rather childish. You don't speed shift an A4 anyways, thats how you kill it.
If you actually think jamming the gears by manually shifting the A4 is faster, you need a kick in the ***.

did your e-dick grow any cause i guess thats what you were going for. i asked a question for people who know wtf they are talking about. if i wanted opinions i would have said, " what opinions do you guys have on changing the shifter in an a4." maybe thats why your *** is still riding around on salad shooters or is getting different rims childish too?

back to the topic. any pics?

I dont think its entirely pointless to have a shifter in a computer controled auto. The best reason I can think of to have one is a roll race situation. I think it gives you some extra freedom on the street to hold a gear until the hammer drops instead of waiting for the computer to get off its *** and downshift it for you. True thi scan be done with the factory shifter, but why not have the extra security of just slammin it forward. I had a Quicksilver in my 79 Z28 and I loved it. After seeing that I could use on on my car I am into it. I think the "gap" in the photo could easily be dealt with one way or another. Guys feel free to bash me if Im wrong, but can you really do any damage to a newer A4 by doing your own UPshifting??

Well, any transmission that gets pounded on will not last as long as one that has, electronic or not. I agree, the computer sucks at shifting, especially when you try to take off and avoid burning rubber- that can cost you some time. It really shifts well at wide open throttle though, but lately I had trouble with mine, where it will not shift into 2nd gear- but as we all know, it's always the first one to go.

Fabricating a leather boot for the "gap" should not be very complicated and will make the console look 10 times better- the new shifter looks great though!

I'm not by any means referring to one person on this... I don't understand why some people are just turning posts into a pissing contests?! Borninatransam had a very good point, that I myself wanted to get more advice on, since I am in the same boat.

I work at an auto parts store, and I looked up on a computer shifters for an A4 car. It said that B&M makes a console model for a 4th gen, but it's the same part number as the onle for a 3rd gen, so I don't know how it would work- it's 2 different consoles.

If anyne has an more to add, please do, modified A4 shifters are hard to come across.

I have a B&M megashifter in my car and I love it. I did not put it in to speed shift. I put it in to replace that stock piece of **** that belongs in a kia when I built my car. I slipped it through the stock slot and cut up the plate that B&M sends that has the shifter indicator and glued it into the stock spot and hooked it up. It all works great

That thing looks like a sky scraper compared to the stock.

I don't know if it is, it could just be the angle of the camera or something, but is it taller than stock. If so, does it feel wierd changing gears. I would think it would put your elboe at a wierd possition.
