LT4 Hot Cam?
Heres the deal. I blew up the top end of my 97 chevy silverado when a nitrous backfire ocurred. I then melted all my wiring from the fire that ensued. I had to put the fire out with dirt. So I rebuilt the top end of my truck. Ported and polished L31 vortec heads, manley race flow valves, screw in studs, bronze valve guides, hardened exhaust seats, LT4 hot cam kit, lots of bolt ons, and Ed Wright custom tuning. The problem is that I didnt pick up that much power. For everything I've done it seems like it should perform alot better. I am running a stock stall converter now, but I'm not sure how much it's hurting me? I just want some feedback as to what people think might be the problem? OR......what cam I should have gotten. It drives O.K. but it's a dog under 2500 rpm!
HELP.......
HELP.......

What are you basing your comparisons on? ET/MPD/Butt meter/Dyno?
Get a Yank ST3500 and hold on!!

Re: LT4 Hot Cam?????
I'm basing this on track times. After the rebuild I ran a tenth slower on my 60' times, yet I picked up a tenth on my quarter mile time. I should also add that when I went to the track with the new setup it was alot hotter and pretty humid. I'm planning on getting a vig set around 2600-2800rpm (I drive my truck every day) So hopefully this should help. I just thought it would perform better because GM rates this cam at a 1500-5500 RPM rating. I beg to differ........ more like 3000-6000rpm. Maybe I expected too much of a gain from the cam, and was disapointed with the results. But with all the hype and magazine articles on the LT4 hot cam, I am very disapointed. Any suggestions?

Get some sticky tires and the TC and you will be HAPPY!!
The truck is going to be difficult to hook up but the DRs or ET streets will help some.
Is the truck lowered any? This usually does not help much for track purposes.
And the hotter weather can affect performance in the range of .2 or more...

Re: LT4 Hot Cam?????
The stall is definitely killing you with that cam. Anything between 2400-2600 and you'll be amazed. The 2800 isn't that bad but depending on what your sense of daily driving is, it might be slightly annoying.
ET is more driver than car. What you should have looked at was your mph, but at the same time you need to compare track and weather conditions to really base it all.
Hooking up in a truck is no fun. The single most effective weapon against wheel hop on any leaf sprung vehicle is Cal-Tracs bars.

Re: LT4 Hot Cam?????
Thanks for your responses! I should also mention that I do have ET streets for the truck. Also, my mph was up one over the previous runs. I'm going to the track again, (with some cooler weather) and we'll see what happens.
