perhaps this has been fixed on thier new version of the LT1 oil pan? i know with Nick at nu-tek's help they made changes so that it now clears the steeing rack and so that there is more room for the oil level sensor plug when using Hooker LTs. anybody know if the dipstick problem was fixed as well?

Don't get me wrong. The pan itself is well designed. That is why I chose to keep the pan and correct the problem myself after Canton made it clear to me, they weren't capable of handling the problem. Joe, yes they did say they changed cores. But like I mentioned above, the change that was made, was a slight fore/aft (according to Canton) move. That is the change Canton told me was made to correct the problem. This change did not move outward from the crank, which is where the problem lyes. The 'V' would need to be larger, and move outward to clear the tube. If you were to set an oem and Canton pan side by side, a person flippin' burgers for a living, could see the difference/problem.

However, the latest replacement pan I received (with the lastest changes as of then)from them was in early July. You are saying they made another change since that time?

Arnie,
I'm not sure of the date of the changes, but yes they did change the outward position of the dipstick "V", which solved the dipstick problem. It is still available under the 15-244T part number. The new version is part number 15-242T, and has the updates in my previous post. The nice thing about the new version is that although more shallow in the front, it still clears 3.875" stroke without any modifications.

Do you know when these changes were made. Im not sure what the part number is on the one i bought. But as soon as i get my new flywheel in the mail my tranny is going on and then the hooker LTS are gong on next. So you guys are saying that my hooker headers will have clearance problems and powersteering clearance problems. Has any one used on with a aftermarket Kfram. That is what i have . I hope it help me.

Update! Called and talked to Canton the other day. I have the 15-244T. The latest pan, as noted above, that I have was sent about the 1st of July with what I was was told a modified/corrected 'V' area for dipstick tube clearance. Also, as noted above, the 'corrected' version was a joke. Anyway, NO additional change/correction have been made since the pan I received. What JR was referring to apparently, was the new 15-242T pan, with the mods noted above by JR. This (242) pan does use a different core than the 244. Apparently this different core has by some strange accident, (if indeed it does fit/clear) additional dipstick tube clearance formed into it that the 244 does not. So, once again, the tube clearance problem has NOT been corrected. Bottom line? If you have a #15-244T pan, don't expect it to fit around the dipstick tube.

Additional note: According to Canton, NO additional changes/corrections are planned for the 15-244T.

The dipstick tube problem was solved through a change in the core stamping a few months ago, before this new pan became available. There are a couple pics of the new pan on my website.
Oddly enough, I have a 242 and the oil level sensor does not fit with the hooker headers.
I had the sensor moves around the 45* corner and it fits just fine now.

No problems with the steering rack as far as I can tell.

Dipstick seems to clear the pan ok, but it hits the 4bolt main.
I'll probably cut the tube short and use a cap when the motor is running.
I tried bending it a little, but I can't get enough of a bend into it and still insert
it with headers installed. Worked great with the block on the stand though

I am currently building a new engine and have the 242T pan. The dipstick would not clear the 4 bolt caps, I had to remove the pan and bend the tube. It fits now, but I am not running headers. I have not tried the stock manifolds for fitment yet, as they are still on the vehicle.
Many regrets at purchasing this pan, I would certainly look at a different solution if I had it to do over again.
