Im having a custom set of headers made for my race car (93 Z28) this next week, and was wondering on primary tube size, Im currently running Hooker LT's 1 3/4"....The guy making the headers thinks that 2" primarys with 4" collectors....I was thinking mabe a 1 7/8 -2" step with a 4" collector, I just dont want to loose all the bottom end power....what do you guys think??......most of you know my car, supercharged 18pnds boost-soon to be 20+ making 700+RWHP....Thanks

Rob,
I think you've got enough converter that low end loss won't be an issue. How much boost are you showing when on the two step, or at launch ? How far does the RPM & boost drop at gear changes ?

1 7/8 to 2" stepped. What are your heads flowin' on the exhaust side? Thats one of the biggest determining factors to let you know if its even worth it.

Actually a 1 3/4 to 1 7/8" stepped header with a 3.5" collector would be fine now that I see your numbers.

I'm only running an lt1 head, so I have a really small exh port. When we bilt my headers, I went 1 5/8 step to a 1 3/4. Mine are a tri-Y type, then it goes to 2" then to 3". I hade seen over 20 hp and 25 ft of tq on the dyno with this header.
Before I Stared talking to people I was going to run a 1 7/8, you might talk to the people at Burns Stainless about header, very good people.
Bigger is not always better.
