96 CAPRICE ENGINE SAME AS LT1 MY BUDDY HAS JUST PURCHASED A 96 CAPRICE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND WANTS TO CONVERT IT TO THE LOOKS OF AN IMPALA BUT WANTS ME TO DO SOME PERFORMANCE UPGRADES ON IT FOR HIM. HE TOLD ME IT IS AN LT1, I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THIS IS TRUE HAVENT MESSED WITH THEM TO MUCH. I HAVE A 99 SS WITH THE LS1. IF THIS IS TRUE WHAT WOULD YOU RECCOMEND TO DO TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE OF THIS BOAT. IM LOOKING AT INSTALLING NOS ON IT WHAT WOULD BE RECCOMENDED TO DO. MY FRIEND IS NOT LOOKING AT DUMPING A TON OF MONEY IN TO THE WHOLE PERFORMANCE END OF IT BUT HE DOES WANT TO BE ABLE T BEET THE OCCASSIONAL RICER WHO PULLS UP AND WANTS TO RACE. Re: 96 CAPRICE ENGINE SAME AS LT1 This is the iron-headed version of the LT1. Best bang for the buck is going to be cold air, stall, and the juice (N20). The driveability fun factor bar will be raised quite a few notches, and the reliability as well as the general import stompin' will be there.

Re: 96 CAPRICE ENGINE SAME AS LT1 first find out if it is a 350 first. most caprice's came with 305 motors. our company ordered a lot of them in 96, i think the only caprices that came with the lt1 was the police packages (not complety sure about thatt though) and the impala SS. anyway all the bolt ons will help performance.

Re: 96 CAPRICE ENGINE SAME AS LT1 96 Caprices did NOT come with 305s. You could get them with an 350ci iron-head LT1 or an 267ci iron-head L99 V8, that externally looks exactly like the LT1. The L99 is worthless to mod. Swap the L99 long block for a 383. Injectors and PCM programming would also have to be changed.
