Can somebody give me information on the GM 847 Cam?
Can somebody give me information on the GM 847 Cam? I know the specs but I was wanting to know if you put it in straight up and what you did for the dowel pin for the Optispark. How does it sound? I want it to sound like a CC306. What springs should you use with it? I have a Crane 10308 Kit but that might not be quite enough.

I'll try and help you out since that's my old cam in his car.
When you get the cam it comes with the pin un-installed and taped to a card that tells you how far to install pin for different years.
The cam sounds great, it should, it's bigger than the "306 Comp."
The cam is ground with 4 degrees advance, this works well on 350-396. Just align the gears and hope your cam gear and chain vs. crank/pistons put you close enough to work. Ellis's stock bottom end works fine with 1.6 intake/1.52 exhaust rockers(1.52 exhaust rockers keeps the lift down to .575 or so, instead of .6)
For spring pressure look for 125 psi min installed and 325 open. I use 130-150 psi installed and 350-375 open.
Ellis car, ran it's new combo a couple weeks back. Despite bad traction (cold) it did get 11.85. The cam has outstanding pulling power in the upper rpm's. His combo should get 11.6's with better traction and some shift point changes. That's damn good for a heavy 3800lb car lt1 350.
