a guy from a well know speed shop told me lt1's dyno at 220-230 and a lt4 dynos at 250-260 at the wheels??? i thought lt1s where around 230-250 and lt4 are at 285-305 at the wheels. he said alot of that stuff i read on these forums is bullshit and he also says he highly doubts a ls1 with heads and cam will ever see 450 at the wheels. mean while i see a ton of people with ls1's making 430-450 at the wheels with heads and cams. i find it hard to believe that EVERYONE is lieing about their numbers. what do you guys think. this is the guys website. www.stropespeedshop.com. he does have some mean *** cars though. i dont know whether to believe him or what.
I dynoed my 97 LT1 before I turbocharged it. It put down 260/298 to the rear wheels with a stretched throttle cable. Pissed about the LOW numbers I went to work to find out what was wrong and found the throttle blades weren't opening all the way. Adjusted it and the car woke up. OBDII LT1s generally make within 15hp/tq of 300 in good running condition but stock. OBDIs seem to make about 5 less. All of these are reletive but are pretty accurate based on my experience.
Doesn't sound like he has much experience with LT1s. Case in point.. He only made 386/455 out of his turbo LT1. Mine put down 462/473 to the wheels with 7psi of boost to redline. It made 484/540 to the wheels aborting the pull at 4700rpm because the boost spiked to 10psi. Had a home made boost controller on it that I was still learning to use. This is on a completely stock engine with stock programming. Fuel upgrades are an FMU and booster pump.
