Default LT4 Hot Cam in Stroker?????

How well will the LT4 Hotcam perform in a 383 stroker situation with good flowing (ported) Vortec heads? I threw a rod in my engine and a stroker is being built right now. Any other cam suggestions would be appreciated.

It'll make pretty good power depending on the heads. Most f-body folks would use a bigger cam in a 383, but since you have a truck you may not want to trade off the bottom end torque by going with a bigger cam.
Also, you should upgrade your injectors (based on the ones in your sig) to at least 24#.

the hotcam is a very small cam for a 383 application, regardless of the vehicle...that is a baby cam for a stoker motor...atleast thats my opinion, and we all know what opinions are like

If it were me - I would go with a larger cam as well. I've got a 383 with GTP stage II heads with a GTP #6 cam = 234/242 268/292 on a 114 sep. Mine works well and I'm over 400 ft lbs @ 2750rpm. Keep in mind that you've got the extra cubes now that will eat up a cam ie. go with a larger cam.

Actually drives nicely - some tuning is going to be required. Mine idles around 950rpm and I can run the A/C at idle without the slightest bit of problem. Yes, the injectors were changed, I went with SVO 30 pounders. I think you'll enjoy the larger cam without any sacrifice in driveability.

How is the driveability with that cam? Did you change injectors as well?

I appreciate your advice and recommendations, but I went with the Hot Cam for the following reasons.

1.) Its a truck and its heavy. If I had and F-body I'd definitly get a bigger cam. You can really feel the loss of low end torque when you have a 4900 pound vehicle.

2.) The intake manifold doesnt flow that well (even with porting) Ed Wright's guy said that my intake doesnt flow very well past 5000 rpm. However mine pulled fine up to 5500 on the dyno.

3.) Ed Wright's guy reccomended a 210, 220 cam (the comp 304) I actually bought that cam and had the computer programmed for that setup. After a week I couldnt live with myself having such a weak cam, so I sent the cam back and the computer is being done right now (for hotcam)

3.) Who else is building a stroker for 96-99 trucks running the stock fuel injection system? (I've only heard one other guy who's doing it with a blower) I'd rather run a cam that Fastchip is familiar with, so they can tune it better. Its a mail-order tune so I'm already taking chances.

Does that make any sense to you guys? I'd like to hear what you guys think.

At least get 24# injectors for the added insurance.

They dont make any aftermarket or alternative options for my weak 19# injectors. They are not standard style injectors, and are unique to only 96-99 chevy vortec V6 and V8 engines. The only way to get a boost is mess with the fuel pressure regulator, and get a Walbro 340 to keep the pressure up (which is 60-66psi stock)

That sucks. I thought injectors were pretty standard, especially among GM vehicles, which can use Ford injectors (see what I mean?)...

What's the whole setup you're running on your Impala? Also, what kind of tuning are you running? Ed Wright is doing my computer, any tips at all?

Thanks

The hot cam is a small cam but its not that bad of the small cams, GMHTP uses a CC305 in their 93 396 and that car made good power. Mike's Impala is a gawd dayumn monster. I'd be scared of it.

Your near So. California, right? Talk to Mark and Andy's Auto (sponser here) - He can pull 20 more HP out of a stock LS1. He still can tune the LT1 motor realy good as well. I think he has the software for the trucks - much better than "tunnig by mail"!

I'll let you guys know the dyno numbers when its tuned. Hopefully it won't turn out too bad. I talked to Andy's auto performance and they dont tune for my application. The only people that I know that do are Fastchip, and Z-industries. Who offers better tuning? I've only had good experiences with Ed Wright. Great customer service and a quality product.
