A Houston Fbody friend of mine has a Vortech/Nitrous equipped 383 cubed '93 Z28 street (capable) car that uses a formerly cracked TH350. This tranny had a huge crack in the bell portion of the housing. He had it welded and it has been working great ever since. The tranny has a vigilante 3200 stall in it. The car runs low 6 second passes in the 1/8th mile (equating to low 10's in the quarter mile) and he has been racing the car with this tranny since 2002. With the Vortech/N2O on the the 383 engine, he's not babying the car/tranny so the crack isn't the end of the line for the housing. I'd just make sure whomever welds it knows what he's doing.

I hadn't thought of welding it. I suppose if it wouldn't compromise the integrity of the trans.
