For what it would cost you to swap in an LS1, you can make the LT1 a beast...

there are plenty combos out there that would get you in the ball park!
www.eportworks.com
that kind of HP is attainable from an Lt1,some are close to that with stock shortblocks, cam, heads, rockers, headers etc.
TUNE,TUNE,TUNE cannot stress that enough!

Do a 396 with supporting mods and an LE3 H/C setup.

wanna see some fast LT1's? in HEAVY freakin' Impala's? sure ya do, look at this. http://dan.esteban.com/impalass/Retu...electedClass=6
the LT1 is more than capable. It is set aside, because the LS1 had some better upgrades. The LT1 is a wonderful engine, and they are plentyful. if yours was to break, you could get an entire long block for 500 from a yard, and it will run. It makes me wonder how all the cars end up in the yard. some of them were in better shape than cars I have driven.

Lets see... 10k to swap in an LS1(I'm guessing...), and you will need an LS1 4L60E, and talk about a hassle with harnesses, and what not. Too be quite honest, the LT1 gets cast aside way too often.

Heads don't flow? well, many places have put ALOT of time into devolping ported stockers, and there are many aftermarket heads that flow quite well. The intake can be ported to support quite a bit of power aswell.

theres a few heads and cam LT1's pushing 400hp to the wheels, and many with the 450hp at the crank you want.
