Default What does your car run at with a 160* thermostat?

Just like the title says. How hot is the car when your driving in traffic and how hot is it after you have gotten on it a few times?

Please give the temperature where you live as well. Thanks guys.

In the hottest of days, w/elec w/p, about an 1/8" above 160.

So mine must be around 165 while sitting in traffic on a hot hot Chicago day.

On 80ish degree days mine runs around 180 degrees. Mine has the fans reprogrammed to go along with it, so the low speed fan comes on around there and it usually doesn't really get any hotter. In a solid block of crawling traffic on hotter days, it's gotten up near what I figure is about 200ish, but didn't get any hotter. That's a little below the level it usually sat at nearly all the time w/ the stock thermo and stock fan temp settings so I'm really happy with it running like it does.

Im wondering if i have a problem. Because before when i used to have a hypertech 160* thermostat, my car would just run barely past 160. (if i remember correctly) The hypertech broke and now i have a Mr. Gasket 160* thermostat. After i get on it once, or if it's hott, the car will run at the first line past 160. I don't know what that is, im guessing 190. I know in general that's not hot, but i think it should run cooler. My car is tuned and the fans come on early, similiar to camaro fan.

Do you guys think i may have a problem, or is it possible the thermostat sucks? Im in florida and it is hot outside though...If i remember correctly, when i had the stock thermostat in, the car ran right around where it is now. (the car was still tuned) To me, that just doesn't make sense...

What kind of thermostat do you guys have? (The guys running 175-180ish. That is where i used to run)

I have a hypertech 160 in mine and it runs around 175 under normal cruising. The fans are also programmed to turn on around 190, so it never gets very hot.

Honestly, i was thinking that. The guy at automotive engineering pulled it up and the computer said all camaros up to 94. (94 is my year) I thought that was a little weird. What is the difference between 93-95? The thermostat also looked a little smaller. The hypertech looked a lot similiar to the stock one...He told me it was a *new* design Mr. Gasket came out with. (yeah....) I told him if it didn't work i would take it back.

Although, if it wasn't LTx specific how would it even work?

a stock T-stat is a two way thermostat. Gen 1 SBCs aren't. People have thrown Gen 1 T-stats in before by mistake.
