Default SBC Heads

Is it possible to change regular SBC heads to adapt to the LT1/LT4 gen II setups. If so how hard is it?

It is possible there are relatively few worth the effort to do so though. The LT1 heads outflowed everything that came before them even big valve and some racing stuff.

Yea, only heads that people go through the effort to convert are the 18* heads, I think Brodix makes them, those and the SB2.2's, might be the same head, im not sure I always get confused when i try and think of their name. Now thse heads are worth the conversion to reverse flow cooling.

How much would it cost to have some heads converted to reverse cooling? What is exactly involved with doing the conversion?

-Thanks

need to weldup and drill some cooling passegas and drill for the intake boltpattern unless you also swap to a manifold with the pattern for the heads, a search here will turnup a few vendors that offer the service.

Specifically what heads are you looking at? As I said there are few worth the effort, the LT1 heads compare quite favorably to even the BowTie heads and outflow a lot of the gen 1 aftermarket stuff as cast.

The conversion can be had for 3-450 bux.. or so.. all depends on the quality/porosity of the casting.. Fairly simple operation and they're are a fwe that can do it.. as far as the perf. between a SBC head and a LTx casting.. it depends on what your trying to do.. Aggie had a killer 23 deg. setup, that could have made great power, another guy on here is running Dart 230's and i think he made great power as well.. Either way you can't go wrong w/ either a LTx ported casting or a Gen 1 setup..

Also it depends on what heads you pick to convert. A Edelbrock, GMPP, Dart or All Pro is much easier to convert compared to everything else out there.

what all is that including?
if its just the conversion thats quite a bit
if its the castings, portwork and conversion then its a damn nice price if they perform well.

No other companies are harder to do because the heads are softer and the heat treat isin't as good.

GM castings like SB2.2, 18° and 15° are some of the best to convert.
