Default AC Removal Finished

Some of you asked how I did this..
This is what I did. I cut the Box inside of the Fire Wall line, and ended up with this.

Every hole to bolt in the Heater Core and Blower Motor is still intact, and fully functional. The next thing I did was cut a panel out of Aluminum, and bolt it in place. Holes were cut out for all necessary stuff. This is the finished project.

Looks like a good way to free up a lot of space. How much weight was lost?

To answer most of your questions, it maybe shaved 5lbs, making 3235 area. I am going to leave it the way it is, it shows that I took the time to fabricate all of it.

I kept everything on the inside the way it was from the Factory. I just cut the face of it off so it's flush with the Fire Wall, and bolted the Panel on to cover it up. Everything internally bolts back into the same place as it did.

are you sure that is going to work if you're trying to retain the function of blowing heat through the vents? I toyed with the same idea long ago and it appeared to me that the blower motor puts it air into the box that you cut off before it comes inside to the ducting. I am pretty sure you just blocked off the path air has to travel from the blower motor to get inside. I don't think that will work unless I missed it big when I looked at it before.

weird, it doesn't show that I posted in this thread yesterday on the forum index.

I looked at my spare heater/ac box and stuff last night and I am certain your setup won't work. Hopefully no one else ran out and hacked their boxes up thinking they'd be able to retain heat.

If I am wrong, please explain how your setup will work. I just don't see it.

I kept everything on the inside of it that deals with Heat, the only thing I removed was the AC Accumulator, that's it. The Blower Motor blows into that outside piece when the AC is on. There is a door in there that is connected to the cool/heat **** on the dash by a cable. That tells the Blower Motor to blow either through the Heater Core, or through the AC Accumulator.
Trust me, I looked at it very closely before I cut it apart. I have no way to test it obviously, but everything is still factory intact.

Does the post above help you..from what I can tell, what I did will work. I just blocked off all cold air, and kept the warm. Your Vents will work as long as all the stuff is bolted back into place, and the Vacumn Lines aren't kinked or cracked.
I'll find out when I get it running soon, and let everyone know.

I give you props for even attempting this. I'm pretty sure that everyone, (me included), who's ever deleted their A/C has wondered what would be involved in getting rid of that huge clunky eyesore left over in that space, so it's good to finally see some progress being made towards finding out what all is required to make it happen.

Keep us updated on what the outcome is after you get your car running again. This might be potential "Appearance Hall of Fame" material.

I just screwed with it cause I was bored at work, the Engine was out so I had the room, and I had the mighty Dremel.

I dug out my stuff again and I am 100% positive your setup will not work. Leaving all the heating stuff is fine and great but that trap door occurs on the car side, after the air has passed through the AC coil and that box that's in the bay.

the green square i put on your pic is the same area that you see the arrow going through in the pic above. You will not have airflow to your vents, you removed the path and blocked it off.

Thanks for the inputs. I would of figured it out eventually I guess, but it will be easier to get it now. I have to cut it out a little more on that one post, and get the Air from the Blower to bounce off of the panel I put in, and hit the Heater Core.
