Default what is the best CAI for LT1

i want the best in performance and looks. photos would be appreciated, i just changed to a 98-02 front end and my ram air setup will not work anymore. right now i had to use the stock ls1 air cleaner setup. i have a stainless radiator shroud so i dont like the ls1 setup because i cant use my shroud. thanks guys

None of them really look good. All are made of plastic except the slp which is metal. But with metal you get heat soak and that will hurt performance. I have a moroso and am happy with it. Get a polished elbow and moroso or k&n intake and it will look pretty nice.

Personally, I want to convert to ls1 style though. It is much simpler looking and opens up some room in the engine bay.

Err...I get no more heat soak then my friends plastic one, his plastic one was actually a little warmer to touch, I drive around in 70-80 degree weather, come home and touch the slp "cai" and it isnt hot so, I dont know where people get these ideas from.

As for looks SLP is also the sexiest thing out there.

K&N is ugly and overpriced as always.

Couldnt have said it better myself. IMO the K&N looks like a big 18" ***** modified to be used as a CAI

Heat soak is on the inside where the air flow is, not on the outside where you touch it. Also, I think that "people get theses ideas" on the simple principle that metal heats and cools at a faster rate than plastic. Have you ever tried to put coffee in a metal cup? Which will burn your hand faster - a plastic cup or a metal cup? I highly doubt that you put your hand or a thermometer inside each cai and measured it. I agree K&N is over priced , but isnt SLP at nearly 2 times the price! The SLP in my opinion looks better though.

i do not believe that the heat soak thing is of any relevance to a street car. you will not feel or see that difference in the car or on the dyno, if you do it will not be more than 2-4hp. and no the SLP i 231.00 verses the k&n is about 259.00

I believe there was a dyno chart somewhere on one of the boards a few years back, since thats when people started asking this question. It showed no difference between any of them. Cept the G2, since that's pretty much a stock box.

Yea.. if you are talking about the Factory Lid. I had to cut my Hood, and I am putting a Cowl on it.

Actually, you can get one to fit if you cut the radiator upper support. We also had to cut some cross bracing in my hood (no biggie, though). Pound down the condenser a little (after pulling it out of the slots in the radiator, so it will drop down even more), and make some new straps to hold the radiator in place, as you need to tilt it farther out tward the engine. Some guy over at CZ28 has full pictures of this on his web site now (wish I would have saved his page for future reference pictures for you guys). I also installed a 85mm maf to get every last horse power on my combo (Note...I would recommend staying stock maf for engines under 500 flywheel hp, as it takes some tuning to get them to work right, nothing crazy though). It sure is nice looking down the air intake, and seeing my twin 58mm bores staring at you right threw the MAF! Now, all that I have to do is prove it with the dyno.....

Almost forgot....My IAT's are 5 degrees F over outside temp....When crusing down the road. They may even be same as outside temp (who knows how accurate the IAT sensor reads over an out side digital temp guage )

You can find all those intakes, the K&N, Moroso and SLP for $200 or under .
Secondly, putting on a nice intake has shown 7-12 hp increase on stock engines, and im sure a nice elbow (anything besides the stock one, with the long closed off tube, or what some poeple call , a 'donkey ****') might aid in 1-3 hp also.
