Default Stage 1

Here's some pics of me tearing the motor apart. Very easy so far, all intake bolts were very easy to access.

Little to no buildup on the intake runners which is really suprising. Back of the intake was leaking but not enough to spray oil out like some have seen. So, I can't verify that oil might have been leaking into the intake ports.

Looks fun... is this project by choice or because of a previous problem?

Well, kinda both. I had a problem with burning oil which blew blue smoke on startup and while in neutral or park, reving the motor. I also want to refresh the bottom end, do some head work and reach 350-400hp. So, Its definitely both.

Pulled valve covers off and pulled pushrods out. Took headers off(well, one side as we all know the passenger side is a pain). Will hopefully be pulling heads tomorrow.

Well, due to limited tool availability right now, I haven't gotten the heads off yet. Hopefully be getting MY tools from my brothers house sometime this week and get the heads off. I am scheduling them to go in next week.

Well, went back out and worked on it some more. Took out the lifters, took off the balancer and opti. Removed powersteering pump to get to the two bolts that hold the bracket to the head. Got the egr/air crap off the passenger header and removed it. Might throw those up for sale at a good price. That egr/air crap isn't going back on either.

Well, finally got my tools and got the heads off. I think I found my problem cylinders. #2 and #8 both have oil in the combustion chambers. Now, tomorrow I will have to take a look at the cylinders themselves to see if the rings are bad . Here's some more pics, I will have to get a better pic of the cylinder head with the oil soaked combustion chambers as the ones I took didn't turn out.

Here's with the motor out of the car and tore down. The crank and oil pump still reside in the block though.

Wasn't hard at all, let the tail of the transmission come down, pulled the trans, hooked the engine hoist to the motor, pulled the motor mount bolts, slowly lifted till the oil pan cleared the k-frame and than pulled the motor forwarded and lifted it high enough to clear the front of the car. Very easy, I took my time doing this. Did it all by myself at that also!
