Default Ever snap a header bolt? I did...

So while removing my manifolds to install my pacesetter longtubes the second to last header bolt (second from the firewall) on the driver's side head broke off. Believe me when I say I've tried just about everything and anything to get it out from vice grips to torches to drills to easy out tools and just about everything in between.

There is really no way to get it out without removing the head which I don't have the time or money for.

How do you think it would hold if there was no bolt there? I am using stage 8 header bolts and fel-pro gaskets for the headers.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

,Nick

i would use the dead soft aluminum gaskets from percys they sell on ebay for 35 bucks or so, you will blow the fel pros out no doubt but might have a chance to seal with the percys

How much, if any is left sticking out of the head. If there is anything to grip, I would soak it with PB Blaster and let it set as long as you can. Then heat up it with one of those small butane torches. Tap it lightly with a hammer. Then use a very a 4'' pipe wrench to try and back it out. The small pipe wrench will grip better than any Vice Grips. I went through this years ago with some broken screw in rocker studs, that did not have anywhere to apply a wrench. It worked for me. The aluminum threads in your case are a little scary though.

If all else fails, the Pacesetter's do have nice thick flanges, and being an inside bolt will help some. Definetly use some really good gaskets, and maybe even a little high temp rtv around that port. I have used the Permatex Copper to help seal some warped flanges. It helped out, after trying every kind of gasket that I could get my hands on.

All in all, I would take every effort to get the bolt out. If it doesn't seal well, you will have a maintenance nightmare on your hands.

My buddy runs a LS1 with 1 header bolt out on each side (in the middle) and it's just fine. So if it comes down to that you shouldn't have a problem

hmmm I just recieved all my stuff from summit today and really wanted to start putting the headers on.

I got the best fel-pro's they sell, do you really think the percy's are much better?

Is it worth returning the fel-pro's and getting the percy's?

I run felpros with no problems, and I know alot of other people that recommend them. Comes down to preference I think

is it sticking out enough to use a stud remover on? those work pretty damn good. $20 or so at sears.

i'll add that the percy's gaskets are pretty much the most gangster gaskets i've ever seen. got mine from summit.

Did you get the bolt out? If not, I would use the best gasket you can buy. Otherwise, Felpro gaskets can last for years if the bolts stay tight.

I have solid Copper Gaskets, don't know who makes them though. They came with the LT's I bought.

I am missing the pass. side rear inner bolt. (2nd from firewall)...you should be fine, just use a good gasket, and it will help that you r using Stage 8 locking bolts. And like someone else said, add some HT RTV around that port.

If you're able to try vice grips on it...I would go to Sears and get the stud remover like drewl suggested. I snapped my rear drivers bold removing my stock manifolds and that stud remover was a life saver...had the bold out in 2 minutes.
