Default How high????

I'm going to build me some stands to put my car on to: first put my new pace setter headers on and second for transmission removal and install. How high off the ground do you think? I'd like to make some ramp that level off. Or atleast some blocks to block the tires up with. Any ideas?

I'd say at least 18". I just pulled my trans with my car up on jackstands. Its not on them due to needing to move the car to clean up, but, I'd say at least 18". Make them sturdy though.

if you want a cheap way to do it, just use a jack and jack up the front of the car high enough to put both tires into the cuts of a cinder block.... then repeat in back. it worked for me perfect, but if you are going to build the ramps then many props towards that!!

You're a braver man than I, putting 3600#'s or more on cinder blocks and then working underneath the car...

I'd go for some good quality jackstands. This is your personal safety we're talking about here, do you really want the paramedics to pry you out from under the car after it falls on you??? Don't skimp on safety.

Jack stands get my vote. If you need to drive up on something because you can't get the jack under it, then just drive up on a few peices of wood to get the jack under first. I'd try and get truck jack stands then, might be a little taller. Or you could weld longer 'feet' on the ones you buy

Jack stands tend to sink up in my asphalt. How tall is a 4l60e from bottom of pan to top of bell housing? Thanks guys.
