Well, it basically depends on the type of flow numbers the porter got out of them. I've seen all kinds...max flow of 240 all the way to about 290 cfm. I have gone 11.9x with a set of stock castings ported by AI and Leathal Perf. I see that your car is not heavily modded so I would definataly go with a ported stock casting set. Intalled also with a good size cam, you should see a pretty significant gain in power. On the cam side, you would have to get one that is emissions legal. I've always gone about the 590 lift range, so emission was never my problem. I'd say go the biggest you can go and still pass emission. Driving will be affected, but it all depends on the size of the cam. Call the Comp tech line, and have them help you...They're great at it....

Ported heads won't gain you anything with the stock cam. You'll need a bigger cam to take full advantage of the extra head flow.

Yeah the stock heads are very good compared to the old gen 1 motors so the cam is the first cork in the engine. If you are choosing porting or cam do the cam, best though is to do both.

Today my stock shortblock CAPRICE went 11.9 repeatableat 113mph with Advanced Induction heads and cam, have seen more heads/cam b-bodies that could not make it into the 12s. How good ported heads and a cam will make the car run depends on who does the porting and a whole lot on the setup of the car. Mine is not strip optomized as I drove it 150miles each way to and from the track.

Yup, gotta do both, or just a cam only...If will affect your idle though..Just do it..you won't regret it...Just think of the power of pulling those LS1's away. Ahh, I love it...

i'd go with something like the GM846 from summit. It's a 222/230 ( almost same as the the 503) but the crane opens and shuts the valves alot easier than a XE or XFI lobe

The 846 is a nice well proven cam, the GMPP cams like that one are ground by Crane which does not get enough respect from the LT1 community. Comp has a better marketting department and we can plainly see that is more important than results to most here.

Not a bad looking cam, a little on the large side for stock heads but definitely not too big, mine has a little more duration on both intake and exhaust and a 110 lobe sep and im going to drive mine pretty regularly, also depends on auto and stall and your tolerances for a daily driven car. I too would go with teh GM846 if i didnt go custom from AI as well
