Default So should I LS1 swap my car?

Pretty much Im going to have around 6K to spend on my car

Im selling the DSM

The problem? Its auto and I really have always wanted a 6speed

Secound the car is stock, and its been sitting for 2 years

Im broke, so this will be done on a budget my goal?

To make the TA as fast as the DSM that I poured all this time and money into...

DSM is a deep 12 sec car the way it sits, and this is going to be my daily driver, so Im looking for deep 12s on motor or 11.9s..........
Im looking to break 400whp

I know this is alot of ask but am I dumb for wanting to do a LS1 swap?

You guys will decide, and help me out!

You don't want to do a swap if you are broke. The hidden costs will multiply and hit you in the face.

It would be much cheaper to sell your car and use that plus the other cash you have to buy an ls1.

Only do a swap if:

1. money is not an issue
2. you have more of a sentimental value in your current car and don't want to sell it for an ls1 for whatever reason
3. you are very mechanically inclined or know someone that is who will be doing it
4. you have a lot of patience

I would sell but since you state that you want an 11sec car. have a 383/396 built or build 1 your self. If you really want 6 speed this is the best time to do the swap since you will be replacing the motor. a low to mid 11 sec 383/396 would probably run around 5-6K so thats probably out of the question. So look at a regular LT1 with a really good H&C plus boltons, and the advantage of a 6-speed 11sec is possible and at a price range you probably can afford since you really wont have to replace that many things just the basics.

rebuild the LT1 with stock Rods/crank, forged lower compression pistons,(nothing to fancy just a basic rebuild)
drop in the T56 you want
then get a used supercharger kit or ported heads/cam (with around 11 to 1 compression)

My LT1 has only 70K and it was my 1st real performace car so it has alot of value to me!

arn't the truck engines about the same as the ls1's? not to mention cheaper as far as ebay goes. and larger.

i really wanted an ls1 car but i really dont like what they did with the nose on the birds (though my whole rear clip is from a 1999 WS6) and i am strictly Pontiac. except for Corvette, and i dont have THAT kind of money.
