Default LT1 401 question

Ok guys/gals I was playing with an engine calculator and for fun I punched in:

4.060" bore
3.875" stroke
8 cylinders

This comes out to 401 cu. in.

Now knowing that the normal enigne can be punched out to .060 over and ran, I was kind of wondering if anyone had thought about this. All you would have to do it buy a 383 stroker crank or 396 stroker crank and bore your block out .060 over. You could probably get this to a CR of 11.2-11.4 if you were careful in selecting your rods and pistons.

Don't flame because it is just a thought and I was just toying around with the calculator.

It would be like having a 400 BBC in SBC form.

comments or concerns welcome. BAD OR GOOD

I believe there are 408 stroker kits for the LT1 the crank has a 4"stroke and the bore is 4.030

You basically described a 396 SBC, except .060 instead of .030. It's not worth reducing the future life of the block just to get those 5 cid.

Yeah to do that on a LT1 block you would want to sonic check them to find one good one to do that with. Either way the bores are going to move around if you start making real power.

It's more just work to get that much crank and rods into the LT1 block.

Yeah it has been thought of, lots of people get hungup on wanting more cubes mistakenly thinking that is how they can make more power.
Few Impala guys running 409s LT1s for nostalgic appeal, one of them actually runs strong but it is because of the cubes.

I never thought of that 96. That would make sense if it were a show car or a nostalgic replica but nor for a DD or weekend car.
