Default Won't Start...opti???

Just recently made a post about my car missing up top. It would start fine everytime, idle fine, and only miss on occassion. I checked the wire from the opti the coil and it looked kinda bad. I figured I would try to change that along with the coil when I got the chance. Anyway, to today, I went to start my car and it sputtered a bit then died. Won't start at all now. It only has 63k on it and I will be upset if it is indeed the opti. Could the coil being bad cause it to not start? I just want some cheap easy things to try first before I jump to the conclusion that it's the opti. Any advice on where to start and what to do? Thanks.

Same exact thing my car did, and it was the opti. Sorry for the possibly bad news. It could be the coil if you want to try that first go ahead, but im willing to put money on the opti.

My car is doing the same things. Went to go to a friends house last night, took 6 tries to start. Holding it at WOT while starting SEEMED to help. Otherwise, it would start, tach would bounce, never going above 1400, lot of surging from motor, then it would die. After that, it was fine. Has done this a few times recently. When I replaced the water pump last weekend (for the second time), the mechanic that was with me noticed the opti wasn't looking too good. Took it down to my Dad's store the other day, and the guy there said the same thing. Just ordered a MSD today.

my car has 170k, i thought it was the opti, but it was the coil and the coil wire, would run a few second and die, replaced it and it runs great, and has a miss every once in a while

Check your coil wire and coil.

It also won't hurt to check the wiring harness going to the opti -- a lot of the time the opti harness itself will be falling apart or be already gone.

I had intermittent problems with my coil. I did not find this out until after i replaced opti. Then since i had the car apart I went ahead and put a cam in.
So I guess you could say that the coil made me upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. So could the coil cause it to not start? It will not even act like it wants to start. Just turns over. I just want to rule out the small stuff before I spend the money on an opti.

Coil is cheap$. Buy one and try it cause it is good to have a new one anyway if you change the opti... good luck

So your car would not start at all either and it was just your coil? If so, that makes me feel a little better. Thanks again guys for the help.

just start with the coil, they are cheap, and as said before, you'll want a new one if you go with a whole new opti anyways... good luck
