Default Stick with LT1 or go LS1?

Since my car is down permenetly until I get the funds to do the motor, I'm asking around to see how hard it would be to convert my LT1 Firebird to an LS1? I'm fine with keeping my LT1 and getting the motor re-done.

But just how much of a pain in the *** is it to convert over to a LS1? Car is a auto and I already know my 3000 stall will have to be changed out for a LS1 stall. Thanks in advance.

You will have to get a LS1 4L60E, and front cross member, with a bunch of other things

Pretty much find a wrecked car and take stuff from it so its all there.....

I bought my stock rebuilt to spec LT1 for 1 grand after I blew my motor, then used the money from selling the old motor to purchase a medium sized cam with all the necessary valvetrain to compliment my bolt on's + a couple hundred dollars. $2500 for 330-350rwhp or 4500-6 grand for an LS1 conversion. Its up to you, just wanted to let you know some alternatives.

Yea, and that conversion is most likely a stock LS1. I was thinking about it when my old motor went out, but I was looking into building up a LQ9 to a 7.4L. That would be some crazy **** with a M6 in it..

My reason for going for it is as follows........

I like the front of the LT1 cars.
I like the LSx family of engines and their aftermarket
I dont like the 97-02 interiors (too fancy)
Best way to go is find a wrecked ls1 fbody

Unless you get another harness you gotta snake out the whole deal from a wrecked car, personally if you want a LS1, get a LS1, LT1's are good motors but I have up after breakin too many things. The car spent more time on jack stands vs being on the pavement.

It cost me about $1800 (including 4-bolt block) to re-build my LT1 from the ground up. I did it myself though..

for the money and frustration you will spend on an LS1 swap you could do an LT1 stroker and have way more power and a brand new motor.

Well, if you think about it though.. Imagine buying a blown LS1.. building it for the same price as the LT1, and only having to spend an extra 1000(harness/blown block cost) Maybe another 500 for extra parts... I mean if you rebuild your lt1, you still have to pay for it to be taken out and put back in. I don't think a swap is much more expensive when you think about it.

Not to mention that you could sell your lt1 if it's still running to cover the cost of the blown ls1 etc.

I wouldnt go with an lsx swap. You might as well buy an ls1 car, theyre so cheap nowadays.
