Default Ac Compressor

Whenver my car is on, the ac compressor is whining. If i turn it on, it stops for a second but then starts whining again(I guess when the clutch grabs?)

My question is how hard is it to replace the compressor? also, how is the R134 taken out and what are the steps i need to do it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The compressors kinda hard to change I guess. Just depends on the amount of patience you have. It is possible though if thats what your asking.

R134 as bad as it may sound is not regulated in any way, even a/c shops let it go into the atmosphere.

Vent all R134a
unbolt lines from back of a/c compressor
Replace a/c compressor
attach all lines
Go to an a/c shop to have the system evacuated and charged
On the cheap, just have them evacuate it and charge yourself.

I would pay a reputable shop to do it. They can recover the R134a in the system for you and then you or them can change your compressor, and then when that’s changed they will evacuate (remove moister and incondensable) and recharge your system to the proper spec and wil also check for leaks. They will also add the correct amount of oil back into the system and the correct kind of oil. Plus if the EPA catches you or that shop letting r134A into the atmosphere for some reason your looking at a 10K-15K fine and 5-10 years in jail unless you live in California then its 10-15 years in jail. And r134a is still not good to breath in or really touch to your skin, so keep that in mind also. JMO

You may only have to change the front clutch bearing, mine sounded like I was running a supercharger at the end a few years back. You need a special puller to remove it but I had mine changed for $100.00 in labor and I believe the part was around $180.00. If this is the case you do not need to touch the freon portion of the system.
