Center Console Light

Center Console Light
This may be a stupid question, but how does the little bulb for the gear shift display in an A4 get replaced? Does the bulb come out or does the entire little light unit need to be replaced?

Mines dim, but not out, I'm willing to bet it's a 2-bulb setup. The little #74 ones GM uses in quite a few places (as do other manufacts). How to get them out, that's for another person to answer

Its the same bulb as the one that lights up red on the door panels of trans ams, its the same as the ones behind the ac controls. You will need to remove shifting lever, upper console cover, and there you'll see the shifter plate, its one bulb only...

I had mine out when I took the console apart to replace the shifter cable (how the hell that broke is a mystery for the ages). Basically the entire console comes out and theres a little light bulb under there(just one IIRC, but its been a while). I dont remember what all had to come out, but it was almost everything in the center console section. INcidentally, ill be taking mine back apart to replace it, since it went out about 3 months after replacing the shift cable.
