has a rip in the bottom it where it goes onto the throttle body. Would this cause any loss of HP? ive been tracking down a few driveability probs with my car and just noticed this a few days ago

if its leaking hot air into the tb then yes. i had it happen on my car. felt like it was struggleing a little to get moving and a little funny on the top end. trick flow elbow fixed that.

I found a rip in mine a long time ago and when I replaced it I didnt notice any difference but technicaly its un-metered air because it dosent go past the MAF but depending on how big of a rip it is it you may not notice the difference.

Yes it could rob some power. If there is unmetered air getting in and the maf is not reading it, then it would cause the car to run lean. This could definately be a problem. Replace it with a 1le elbow or trick flow or vortec. Thats what I did.

There are ones on ebay that are powdercoated and are only liek 50 bucks thats what I did and Im pleased with it. It only required drilling a small holefor the opti vent line and trimming one of the rubber pices where the TB and Elbow connect. Easy as Pie

The biggest issue is that your letting Un Metered air into the intake, hence the MAF cannot compensate for the change.
