I just pulled one out of an LT1, this is the only one I done so I'm not sure if they are all the same, but this one had a roller bearing and then the brass bearing behind it. HTH

That's just like the one that came out of mine. I thought the same thing WTF?

It's a bronze pilot bushing. Pretty sure they came from the factory with them.

Mine was cracked on the side that faces inside the flywheel so I replaced it a RAM one that has needle bearings when I redid my clutch.

The damage on mine made the tranny howl when you were sitting still with the clutch pedal engaged. You could hear it when you were at a drive thru or stop lights, kind of a grinding howl.

Summit has them, this is the one I got:

Thats a pilot bushing...some people use them instead of the roller bearing.

They might make some noise, but they wont go bad and make you have to pull your tranny to replace it.

This was what my clutch looked like when mine went bad a few years back. To say the least the bronze or brass bushing was junk.
I replaced it with a needle bearing type bushing. The car had a bad vibration in the drive train for a few days and then finally I came off the highway and couldn't get the car in first gear. As you can see the car is driven very hard as the springs in the clutch were maxing out against the pins and finally sheared a few of the pins off. If you look close you can also see the spring had ejected itself from the disk.

Yea, I just did a clutch job on my 130k mile car and the bushing looked ok so I reused it without a problem. There is a thread somewhere about these in the Manual Trans section with pages of pictures of failed bearings. I'm not advocating one over the other at all and I'm no expert, but there's a lot of failed bearings out there....

When I did my rebuild, the OEM Pilot Bearing did not fit... so I went down the years. I had to use one off a Pilot bushing from a 86-fbod. no problems with it
