i was wondering what you guy with the 3.42's in A4's RPM's were at 70 MPH and ya'lls shift points when drag racing. my car is a 94 Z A4 it has the 3.23 carier and was wondering if i had these gears or 3.73's. see my friends is at 2400 at 70 with 3.73 on a 2000 Z A4. and mine are about 2300 to 2350 at 70. does it seem like i have the stock 3.23's or are they a little higher ratio? see my other friend has a 96 TA A4 stock with 3.23 and his rpms are at about 2100 at 70. and mly brother has the 2.73's on his 94 A4Z and his are at about 1900 at 70. see when i stomp on it i leave it in Drive not over drive. but my shift points from 1st to 2nd are 36 or 37 MPH and from second to third it is about 78 MPH. and from 3rd to 4th i think it's around 120. does anyone have these gears? sorry about the legnthy thread but i need to know what gears i have that way i won't have to spend money on something i already have.

Do you have new tires different from the factory? If so, you would have to recalibrate the speedo. I would check out http://www.f-body.org/gears/ and play around with common gear ratios to determine what you have.

The trying to figure final gear by the speedo can be complicated by tire size when comparing with other people.
Best way to tell is to get the rear off the ground, put a piece of tape on the sidewall of a tire, a piece on the fender to line up with the one on the tire, and a mark on the pinion in relation to a mark on the rear housing itself. Rotate the tire 1 full turn, count the pinion rotations.
2 3/4 rotations = 2.73's
3 1/4 rotations = 3.23's
3 3/4 rotations = 3.73's
4 1/8 rotations = 4.10's

I've got the factory 3.23s in my rear and I'm right around 2500 at 78-79 mph.
Its hard to determine shift points at WOT off of your speedo, I know that when I usually run at the track when I'm going through the traps my speedo says I'm barely going over 100, but I'm trapping almost 118 on my slip.
You're much better off going by the rotations in the pinion vs. the tire. It'll be the easiest way to figure it out. It'll give you a good excuse to throw on a rear girdle and change the fluid too

You guys are way over-killing this.
Go to the link Ralls posted. http://www.f-body.org/gears/
Fill in the fields accurately and you'll know what gears you have. Speedo isn't off more than 2-3 mph around 50.
